| Civil Engineering ECO's civil engineering services can start with basic site layout planning used to coordinate residential lot property limits, set back build lines, fence, gate, and tree locations, building footprints, and area calculations. Site plans can include locations of water, storm, and sanitary linea, overhead utiltities routing, and sun studies for solar PV arrays. These early site layouts define impervious areas and lot percentages required for storm water mitigation design. Site plans can also be used to model topographic data or other information needed to write flood water conveyance letters, or 'no mitigation required' letters. ECO also provides flood zone review, grading and fill calculations, drainage and detention volume requirements. ECO can also support your project's requirements for LID requirements for water supply & re-use. This can include rainwater harvesting, solar energy potential, geothermal energy, black/gray water separation, pollution prevention planning, pervious concrete systems, and On-site composting/recycling. SITE STORM WATER MANAGEMENT
Planning and design services for residential and commercial site planning such as layout of grading, paving, curbs, streets, surface drainage and detention systems. Storm water detention can be on the surface as a detention ponds, or underground an area like a parking lot , or a combination of both. SITE DESIGN CONSULTING
These services cover site specific designs required for county, city, or community projects. Start with a low cost preliminary AutoCAD site layout to help focus group discussion and planning. This provides property dimensions, orientation, fences, parking, drainage and preliminary footprints of major items (pools, buildings) I fneeded proceed to a detailed site plan. This is an engineer sealed site plan and licensed survey, defining setbacks, easements, and footprints. Items like pools, patios, buildings, fences, gates, benches, tables, shading devices, trees, utility locations, and drainage plans are defined with construction details. Additional services can include building design, engineering, blueprints and inspections. STORM, SEWER, AND WATER LINE EXTENSIONS
ECO will determine the location and depth of connection points for water, sanitary waste water, and storm water utilities. Lines sizes and required slopes are determined and added to your plans. Cut profiles are provided to assist plumbing contractors. While we regularly design bigger items like detention ponds, we also know the importance of correct and smart construction detailing. One of the small areas we see done incorrectly over and over again are curb cuts for yard drainage. If it is designed and detailed correctly, it be built correctly and will function correctly for the life of the project. If it is not design and detailed correctly, you can get nonfunctional designs and sometimes quite funny designs that will cause problems and will need to be replaced again later over and over again. The following photo is one of our favorite contractor designs - a reversed slope 1.5" pipe connecting to a 4" pipe going uphill through a 6"curb, The result? A lifetime of cracked curbs, cracked sidewalks, trip hazards, underground mosquito breeding, all with the 'plus' of a soggy non-draining back yard. ' GREEN WATER' CONSULTING
ECO can help your project meet any level of sustainable practice. This might simply be consulting on available rain water harvestng or on HVAC condensate harvesting systems. Our consulting can extend to a fully coordinated gray water system design including detailed piping design. This can be a stand-alone consulting, or part of a Revit 3D B.I.M. Inegrated MEP design effort. BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ECO-CIVIL can be extended into the establishment of best practices for a project to include development of 'Best Management Practices' (BMP) for each project.
BMP’s can reduce the environmental impact of each project by reducing the density of storm water carried bacteria, which in the Greater Houston Galveston area flows directly into our bay. Simple effective BMPs for residential and light commercial projects can be reductions in impervious cover area, or increased porous surface swale area to slow rainwater runoff. A swale end sump with a solar powered pump can return water extending the runoff soil interaction time. This runoff delay allows the natural bacteria in all soil to have more time to break down contaminants in a site's ground water runoff. These contaminates can be nitrate-nitrogens, animal waste, pesticides, herbicides, spilled fuels, and even trace amounts of cadmium, lead and arsenic. Some plants can actually absorb and either fix or convert some of these chemicals into plant fiber or wood fiber. Runoff delay can also keep more moisture in your site’s landscaping soils, reducing the requirement fresh water sprinkler usage. This reduction saves two ways, first on reducing incoming fresh water volume, and then on reducing of you water bills water return treatment costs. For a residential lot, these steps may seem like extra effort with possibly a small inconsequential impact. But when multiplied by a hundred thousand property sites, this practice will have a very large and lasting impact at little or no cost. The result can be lower bacteria loads into our bayous and wetlands..
